Interactive services provider AOL is organising a wholesale revamp of its generic domain name holding Games.com.
Already profiting from the inherent appeal of the site's product-specific name, AOL is hoping to develop Games.com into a top web portal for gaming - with new interactive features now integrated.
While the site itself will include facilities for users to leave comments and interact with others, the other face of the revamp will allow AOL to reap the benefits of Games.com's hit appeal - through the sale of in-game advertising space.
Greg Mills, AOL's director of games, gave an example of the advertising ruses Games.com could integrate: "We have an online bingo game in which an old man calls out the numbers, and he may end up wearing a shirt or hat that says Coca-Cola."
He also explained the benefits of the revamp for Games.com's own gaming appeal, which would now be accessible to all those arriving at the generic domain name address.
"By offering next generation online games and continuing to partner with all the leading game casual downloadable publishers, Games.com will be able to offer the best selection of online and downloadable game content on the web," Mr Mills said.
