9th April 2009 Addresses with .com suffixes "synonymous with the internet"

Despite the introduction of new suffixes looming on the horizon, .com is the one people think of immediately when considering the internet, says Domain Name Journal founder Ron Jackson.
Discussing a recent meeting with a journalist from USA Today on ICANN's proposed introduction of unlimited top level domain extensions, Mr Jackson outlines that this could be a very "poorly thought-out plan" as many may never be used at all.
He added that the fact that other suffixes introduced on the web may have suffered from a lack of success as ".com was the only choice in the early years of the internet, so that has been branded in the public's consciousness".
Though .com was introduced alongside .net and .org, it is the one which was "meant for general use", Mr Jackson states, so it is the only suffix which businesses consider to be the most lucrative and realistic option with which to set up an online base.
If you are one of these businesses the domain expert is referring to and are still searching for that perfect traffic-catching generic domain name, examples such as RegencyFurniture.com or AffordablePhoneService.com could provide the perfect solution.
