Posting on Shoemoney.com, Domain Name Wire's Andrew Alleman has commented on the advantages of buying domain names with direct navigation traffic capabilities.
Mr Alleman said that while organising affiliate programme links or deals with search engines do send potential customers to your website, it may be cheaper in the long run to purchase memorable generic domain names instead.
Direct navigation traffic consumers that enter sites by directly typing the address into the bar make up anything between five and 25 per cent of traffic, Mr Alleman said.
He went on to say potentially profitable generic domain names can be found for "surprisingly reasonable prices" at auction sites, allowing owners to lose the cost of using Google to send traffic to your site.
However, the article also pointed out generic domain names that appear on Google's search results are more likely to be clicked on than competing sites.
This week, DN Journal released the top 100 domain name sales of the year so far. The list was dominated by high-value generic domain names, indicating the profitability of investment.
