In a bid to help demystify its use of semantic web technology, search engine Ask.com has offered up some explanations to those curious about its working methods.
Ask.com outlines that it implemented new technology last October, including the Direct Answers from Databases application, to provide more relevant and structured answers to users' queries, rather than relying upon wording alone.
These have contributed towards the site "breaking new ground in the areas of semantic, web text, and answer farm search technologies," it claims.
The blog post furthered: "We no longer rely on text-matching simple keywords, but rather we parse users' queries and then we form database queries which return answers from the structured data in real time."
Finally, the site is currently working on new ways in which to provide customers with more comprehensive answers, using "structured, time-based data" such as the words "now", "weekend" or "tomorrow" to extract relevant information from the web.
Another search engine running from a premium domain name, Find.com, announced that it had partnered up with Travelworm to provide users with a wider range of travel choices from the organisation.
