Domain name news brought to you by DescriptiveDomainNames.com
If businesses needed any more proof of the importance of having a generic domain name then they need look no further than ask.com.
The hugely successful search engine has gone from strength to strength - giving close rivals a run for their money.
According to the latest figures, the website now has the fourth-largest search engine market share, behind Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft.
Just this week, ask.com chief executive Jim Lanzone spoke of how well the firm is doing thanks not only to its catchy generic domain name but an interface redesign.
"It's the fastest-growing in market share for the past year," he said.
He added that ask.com was now Google's largest global partner after the two firms signed a three-year multi-million dollar contract in 2002.
The pair are said to still be in negotiations over whether this partnership would continue for another term but Mr Lanzone is confident of success whatever the outcome.
"This year, whether we renew with them or go with someone else, it's going to be a multibillion-dollar deal," he said.
