A live domain auction has seen a number of generic names sell for hundreds of thousands.
Reporting on the bidding, Domain Name Wire said although the results were not final, it looks to be that SkiResorts.com was bought for $850,000 and topped the list in terms of prices.
Other big sellers at the Moniker event were DVDs.com ($300,000), GarageSales.com ($110,000) and SearchEngines.com ($92,500).
Many of the domains sold were of the .com variety, emphasising the value and investment potential of such a name, although there were also some .mobi and .net listings such as Property.mobi and Baseball.net.
Some in the industry would argue it has been a successful week for the generic domain name sector. Wednesday saw an online learning centre launched by Register.com, while today saw the purchase of Fishing.org, which is planned to be developed as an online social networking site for fishermen.
