As people prepare to tighten their belts to ride out the current economic crisis, Bills.com has issued advice on sorting through finances this festive season.
President of the generic site Ethan Ewing reminds people that an important tax deadline is approaching and has advised that planning is a sensible option.
"To get the most from your tax planning, it is wise to take a step back and understand your tax position before the end of the calendar year," he stated.
In light of this, Mr Ewing then offered tips on how an understanding of taxation can be achieved.
Firstly, knowing the facts is important. This can be done by regularly "sorting and compiling information to lessen the burden" every week.
Also, doing a "test run" is a good idea and people should "obtain a copy of last year's tax form and complete it with 2008 data to estimate this year's obligations".
Finally, Mr Ewing said, "maximise reductions" and discuss this with "a tax advisor, to make wise choices."
More financial guidance was offered by Insure.com last week, which published a list of average car insurance prices for popular models in the US.
