The president of a global internet firm has outlined some recommendations on choosing an effective domain name for businesses.
Clint Page, chief executive officer and president of Dotster, wrote in the Worcester Business Journal that choosing a domain name is the "first step in establishing an online presence".
He adds that "there is nothing more fundamental for a company's website" and that choosing the right name can lead to success.
For those despairing that all of the names are taken, Mr Page advises that this is not the case. Trying combinations of both words and numbers may be the answer, he adds.
Taking an "obvious" route by choosing your company name, possibly with a geographical extension is also advisable, he furthers, as this can ensure customers locate a firm with ease.
He also advises against complex spellings and hyphens within a domain name.
Earlier this month, NameCombo.com, a new domain name tool, was launched for businesses, which provides them with suggestions for possible web addresses.
