Premium domain name Coupons.com saved consumers over $300 million last year, it has been claimed.
As the recession spurs people to keep a tighter rein on spending, Coupons.com has reported that interest in online discount coupons has surged in recent months.
Last year, the company doubled the amount of savings it issued to its consumer base compared to 2007, it has announced.
In 2008, over 38 million money-saving customers accessed the generic domain name to print off discount coupons, according to the site's statistics.
Steven Boal, chief executive officer of Coupons.com, said that many local newspapers have folded under financial pressure, leaving people to search online for coupons.
He stated: "Our goal in 2009 is to bring coupons to as many digital platforms as possible so that consumers can readily find savings in these difficult times."
Those firms that are looking to gain an online presence with a generic domain name could consider purchasing WebsiteCoupons.com or Ads.com.
