Direct navigation to websites with generic domain names is reported to improve the chances of the web-searcher making a purchase.
Anthony Mitchell, ECT news network columnist, said that customers are more likely to proceed through the pages of a website and do business when they have rapidly accessed it through direct navigation.
Direct navigation is a mode of web-search whereby search engines are bypassed and words are typed directly into the address bar, often leading the customer onto websites with generic domain names.
When typing directly into the address bar web users are often unsure whether a site exists matching the requirements of their search. Companies with generic domain names are likely to catch potential customers searching this way, with definite rewards, according to Mr Mitchell.
"Visitors arriving through direct navigation are more likely to drill down through a website to search out information or purchasing options that initially motivated them to arrive at the site," he claimed in an article for TechNewsWorld.
Company website forum load.com confirmed the benefits of generic domain names in attracting direct navigation searchers. "There's a good chance you will generate high-quality leads simply by purchasing relevant keyword-rich domain names and creating landing pages for them", said the website.
