20th October 2008 Domain Name Informer: What makes a low-value domain name
Domain name news brought to you by DescriptiveDomainNames.com
Advice has been offered up by an online resource on why a domain name may not be appealing to buyers.
Domain Name Informer gives several reasons why a name may be low-value or even worthless to a trader, the first one being having a "weak term in a weak extension".
If you own a name that does not have the .com suffix, "the keywords in the domain need to be much stronger to compensate", it advises.
When it comes to brandable names, this may be a problem, as "other people generally will prefer to think up their own clever sounding name rather than pay a premium for your great idea", the article adds.
Lack of commercial opportunity may also be a hindrance and a good way to check is to conduct a Google search and see if there are any ads associated with the keywords.
Finally, as simple as it sounds, those with domain names are reminded that they must make sense to be of use to businesses.
Some generic domain names with dotcom suffixes that have proven their value of late include machinezone.com and breaks.com, which were sold for $52,000 and $67,230 respectively.
