One of the world's biggest domain name conferences and expos started yesterday in New York which has been designed to teach web masters all about keeping their sites sticky and filtering out useless traffic.
Organised by sponsors including Google, Yahoo! and Snap Names, the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference is by invitation only and promises to shed light on some very important questions.
Major search engines rely on domain traffic for ten per cent of their traffic volume, so they are keen for websites to receive targeted traffic which keeps consumers happy.
"The purpose of T.R.A.F.F.I.C. is to bring domain owners and aggressive, forward thinking sponsors together, along with investors so that each can maximise their effort," says a company statement.
"Domain owners can demand a higher payout which in turn raises the value of the domain and sponsors will be happy to pay for traffic that converts to sales."
Some 800 domain name owners and sponsors will be in town for the conference including the president of Forbes magazine and the CEO of Travelocity.com.
