7th November 2008 Domain name pricing explained

A law firm has explained why some domain names are more expensive than others and why they are so desirable for businesses.
According to an article featured on lawdit.co.uk, the value of a domain name is dependant upon "how much someone is prepared to pay for it".
It points out that top-level dotcom domain names are inevitably "more valuable to businesses", but if a firm plans to promote its brand in a particular country, buying up other geographical suffixes may provide benefits.
Although some domain names can be bought for "as little as $10", it adds, problems arise when multiple domain names are bought and an individual or company "sits on them until an interested party requests to buy it".
In conclusion, the article states that as domain names are the "shop window of your product or service to a global market", there will be "large sums of money" spent on them for the foreseeable future.
Chief executive officer of CircleID Alex Tajiran advised companies that the way to tell if a domain name is "recession-proof" is by examining its e-commerce profits.
