A registry has declared that domain name sales are booming and have reached an all-time high this year.
Verisign, a provider of internet infrastructure services, has discovered that domain name registrations are up by four per cent on the first quarter.
Further calculations from the firm also revealed that registrations have increased by 22 per cent compared to the same time last year.
The registry's Domain Name Industry Brief for September 2008 also states that during the first quarter of 2008, they received around 48 billion domain name system queries.
It seems the importance of maintaining an address has also not been lost on people, as the average .com and .net renewal rate hit 74 per cent from January to March.
Some of the strongest growth was seen in Latin American regions, the report states.
Generic domain names have also proved popular this year, with the likes of Printer.com and FreeCoupon.com selling for impressive sums recently.
