Domain names may turn out to be the "safest asset in the world", according to a high-profile name in the domaining industry.
Rick Schwartz, who runs his own blog and online businesses as well as hosting industry event, the Traffic conference, has highlighted the importance of domain names.
In his opening speech at the event, the entrepreneur said those buying into domain names are currently "at the epicentre of history in the making".
He also added that while the banking sector is currently suffering in the midst of a slow economy, domain name owners can control their assets from anywhere and are becoming the "next generation of real estate barons in the world".
This week, a Canadian industry event, the DomainNameConvergence, saw the founding of the Domain Owners Association of Canada, the first committee of its kind aimed at providing guidance to Canadian domain name owners.
