A printing firm has explained why it bought up a generic domain name to boost its profile and business.
Zyan Design and Print, which is based in Hampshire, England, has acquired the generic domain names BeerMat.com and BeerMats.com, in a bid to raise its profile and expand business, reports printweek.com.
The firm, whose beer mat campaign once helped to locate a murder suspect, turns over around £500,000 and distributes ten million beer mats annually.
Managing director for Zyan Martin O'Brien explained the premium domain name purchases, stating: "We're hoping to drive more traffic to the site and make more beer mat sales. We may even pick-up some sales from abroad."
Such generic domain names are not only considered to be a solid base from which to build an online presence, but also a firm investment for the future by some businesses.
For those interested in following suit, valuable domain names, such as Printers.com and OfficeSupplies.com are still up for sale.
