After the burst of the dot com bubble, American businessman Page Howe's internet-based business ventures took a financial battering.
Deciding to invest in domain names, some of which he bought for under $100 (£50), Howe then made his money with several lucrative sales, DN Journal reported.
However, the sale of generic addressees within the .com domain is what made the bulk of his money, as he sold Seniors.com and Guy.com for $1.8 million and $1 million respectively last year.
Graduating from the private liberal arts institution the University of Redlands where his experiences included learning across a wide range of subjects - afforded him his broad knowledge base, Mr Howe claims.
"What a perfect application of the liberal arts education - to be grounded in so many areas so you can identify names with potential value," he commented.
This year the entrepreneur has been spotted at Chicago's GeoDomain Expo live auction where he bid for more names to add to his expanding catalogue.
Last week, DN Journal reported that Michael Ambrose, who owns the domain name cleaning.com, bagged another generic address when he paid $60,000 for freecoupon.com.
