Commenting on an interview with an industry figure, DN Journal has described generic domain names as akin to "prime real estate".
The website reported on a MediaPost interview with Joe Apprendi, chief executive officer of Collective Media, who offered his insight into why generic domain names are valuable during a recession.
Mr Apprendi said that the recession should not hit the industry as hard as the burst of the dotcom bubble at the turn of the millennium and that those "connected to the online advertising market and online media in general" are in a good position this time around.
"This is particularly true of those who own quality generic domain names, because those names have an intrinsic value that goes beyond their capacity to generate passive PPC revenue," he explained.
DN Journal went on to describe generic domain names as "like prime real estate" on which can be built "virtual skyscrapers that tower over the surrounding landscape".
