Generic domain names 'make search easier'

Domain name news brought to you by DescriptiveDomainNames.com

A good domain name that is connected with the product can help visitors "stumble upon your site" one expert has suggested.

A spokesman for Pipex Hosting said that some domain would always be more popular than others as they are simpler for people to remember and therefore more likely to generate traffic.

Macsen Galvin, Pipex Hosting's development director, said that due to the way that people interact with the internet as an information tool in general, consumers looking for a business or product are likely to simply enter a word followed by.com or .co.uk before using a search engine.

"In terms of people finding you, it's often a lot easier for people to find you if you are on an obvious extension," he added.

Earlier this month, recycle.co.uk became the most expensive generic UK domain name - beating Sainsbury's acquisition of taste.co.uk in 1997 by over $80,000.
