6th April 2009 How to profit from expired domain names
Domain name news brought to you by DescriptiveDomainNames.com
Domain Name Wire has offered cash-strapped domain name owners tips on how to make the most of their expired addresses.
It states that it is expectable that more domain names will expire over the coming months due to the recession. However, some ways of making money from expired domains can still be found.
"In many ways it's easier now than in the days of many competing services slamming the registry's servers for each domain," the news provider states.
First of all, research the available examples by using a service to search for expired names, as it cannot be done manually.
Also, do not "fall in love with a domain" as this could make for some very unadvisable investments. The best thing to do if someone persists in bidding higher than you is to not "let your ego get in the way".
Do not bid on domains which are three and four characters long, as these are "usually backordered by dozens of people" and the ones you want will be those which are overlooked by others.
Finally, Afternic is recommended by the site as a service which often has less interest than its counterparts NameJet and SnapNames and could therefore be more lucrative when something does crop up.
For those thinking seriously about adding to their domain name portfolio, generic domain names, such as Ads.com or MilitaryTerms.com, could provide the answer.
