A travel website which utilises a generic domain name to sell flights to the Iberian Peninsula for its parent company has announced annual growth of 12 per cent.
According to the Orange news website, Iberia.com has recorded sales of around $500 million (£371.5 million) taking an average of 325,000 daily online visits - making it Spain's busiest website.
It is reported that globally the site achieved 1.3 million hits and that US sales had seen the steepest rises in trade with an increase of around 80 per cent on the previous year.
The site, which serves Iberia Airlines, offers a range of features including bookings, car rentals, hotel reservations, holiday packages and travel insurance as well as access to the carrier's Iberia Plus frequent flyer program.
Iberia a region of southwest Europe that includes Spain, Portugal, Andorra and Gibraltar and is bordered by the Mediterranean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Pyrenees and north Africa.
