Icann the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers will hold its 2009 Latin America conference in Mexico, it was announced yesterday.
Mexico City will host Icann's first conference of the year on March 1st to 5th.
The announcement came yesterday, following the organisation's 32nd conference last weekend in Paris.
Paris's public meeting came to a "successful" conclusion after four days of discussions about the future of the internet, said Icann.
Peter Dengate Thrush, Icann's board chairman, said: "This was an extremely successful meeting that will be remembered as a milestone in the development of the internet."
Development of domain names and adoption of non-Latin script in web domains were important aspects of the conference. Improvement of the Generic Name Supporting Organisation was also discussed.
Over 1,670 visitors from 150 countries attended the meeting in Paris, held at the Hotel Le Meridien Montparnasse.
Greater Mexico City is the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere, with over 19 million inhabitants.
