PC World has highlighted some interesting trivia for the domain name community by publishing a list of the world's first ever .com domain names.
The article reminds people that the internet is far from a new entity and has actually "been around for some decades".
However, "the web as we know it" started coming together during the 80s, a change that brought with it "those precious dot com domains", it continues. Symbolics.com was the first established .com domain name on the internet, it points out.
Second was BBN.com, a pensive Think.com in third place and MCC.com fouth.
Generic name Sun.com featured joint 11th with IBM.com.
Pyramid.com features in 29th place, while Mentor.com comes 30th.
Other potentially lucrative names on the list include Marble.com, Quick.com and Toad.com.
Generic domain names have been declared to be some of the most valuable assets it is possible to own this year, especially in light of the current economic crisis.
Obviously this sentiment was shared by the lucky person who obtained Printer.com for $800,000 in August this year.
