Success Click has been commenting on local businesses taking on generic domain names to attract traffic to their sites.
The article by Stephen Douglas includes an interview with Greg Gabriel, the internet sales manager for Bob Lanphere Motorcycles, who has recently added the geo-generic domain name BeavertonMotorcycles.com to its adverts.
"Due to the ever-growing number of lines (name products) we were carrying Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc. we felt our website domain needed to be trimmed down and more memorable," he said.
The motorcycle retailer, based near the town of Beaverton, said 24 per cent of traffic to its site come from direct navigation, showing the potential for generics and geo-generics in the online industry.
Additionally, Bob Lanphere's dealership staff and many of its customers now call the company Beaverton Motorcycles, the article stated.
In related news, the geo-generic domain name SaintKittsandNevis.com was made the DN Journal top 20 high-value sales list this week.
