High-profile local search engine Local.com has acquired the advertising services of around 14,000 extra businesses, it has announced.
This brings the company, which uses a premium domain name as its online base, closer to its professed target of attaining the business of 50,000 small to medium-sized firms by the end of this year.
It now enjoys the custom of approximately 30,000 companies, who pay $33 monthly to advertise their services on the site.
Chairman and chief executive officer of the site Heath Clarke stated: "This acquisition is expected to seamlessly integrate across our search and syndication platform, thereby yielding a notable margin contribution for the company."
He added that Local.com will continue to look for innovative ways in which to grow in the future.
Other generic domain names that could be used as a base for a search engine include HelpRequired.com and CheapInsuranceQuotes.com.
