Having a good quality domain name is more important than ever, according to the E-Commerce Times.
Reflecting on the failure of countless addresses trying to achieve a web profile, the e-newspaper listed failed obscure names like Blish, Colib and Diigo, none of which contains the inherent marketing power of a generic domain name.
"Choosing a name and an identity is serious business requiring a disciplined approach," said the E-commerce times, advising against the barrage of names trying to cash in on the success of Google with assonant double-vowelled names.
Further comments suggested that web users searched primarily for keywords, indicating the key to the success of a generic domain name, where the product-specific keyword and the URL address are one and the same.
"Naming companies, like naming newborn infants, tends to follow set patterns, which leads to a crowd of the same-named duly sheared of their individuality" continued the E-Commerce Times.
A generic domain name requires no adaptation of existing sector-leading names, but in fact dominates an e-sector by appropriating the keyword people will search for, making it a target for subsequent web hits.
