Live.com - the generically named domain owned by Microsoft - has unveiled a host of enhanced features.
The search engine has gone from being a straightforward search engine to one which boasts facilities more commonly found on social network sites.
Users are automatically hooked up with any friends they have on Windows Live Messenger and will be invited to enter profile details, TechCrunch.com reports.
Content from RSS feeds, blogs and a host of other web services can be brought into the personalised experience.
"The result is an impressive personal productivity suite that makes me almost wish I wasn't solely a Mac user," wrote TechCrunch.com's Michael Arrington.
Earlier this year, Microsoft bought the generic domain name CashBack.com for a new service that awards cash to visitors that buy products found on MSN's search engine.
It also bought SearchPerks.com to promote its Search Perks rewards programme.
