Demand for generic domain names is expected to take off in the coming years as an increasing number of businesses begin to recognise the value of building their brands online, an expert has claimed.
Scott Alliy, president of Allied Internet Solutions, said that more firms are coming to understand the importance of having an online presence to keep in touch with tech-savvy consumers.
Sales of generic domain names are already generating lucrative amounts, with Toys.com and Auction.com having sold for $5.1 million and $1.7 million respectively during the last week.
Mr Alliy claimed that this trend is likely to continue in the future, with more small and large businesses looking to snap up internet domain names to establish their territory online.
He predicted a flurry of buying and selling of domain names over the next few years as companies look to acquire and develop "the next big internet success story".
Businesses seeking to make the most of the potential of the internet and build a presence online can choose from a range of generic domain names at a price to suit them.
Bidding for LowPrices.com starts from £725,000, while LovelyMoney.com is available from £2,900.
