19th August 2008 Nominet: Renewing domain names 'essential'
Domain name news brought to you by DescriptiveDomainNames.com
Maintaining your domain name is imperative for subscribers and businesses to keep away competitors and ensure they remain accessible to contacts, an advisor has warned.
Nominet, an internet registry for co.uk domain names has highlighted the dangers of letting domain registrations slip, reported net4now.com.
If businesses fail to renew their subscriptions, the address will be open to new buyers, the registry cautioned.
This will mean that customers will be left unable to contact businesses or access vital company information, undoing any hard work dedicated to achieving coverage for businesses.
The registry also pointed out that search engine ranking would have to be reconstructed, email addresses changed and passwords for all online accounts holding personal details readjusted.
Last month a couple from Edinburgh lost their ownership of the narnia.mobi domain name after the estate of CS Lewis lodged a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organisation, subsequently winning the rights to the address.
