25th September 2007 Pets United can't get enough generic domain names

Prolific buyer of animal-based generic domain names, Pets United, has recently made forays into the purchasing of product-specific names in other sectors.
Talking to MultiChannelMerchant, founder of Pets United Alex Tabibi explained the logic behind his purchases of generic domain names like the recently acquired fountain.com
"We're trying to acquire URLs where we have a bit of passion around," he said, adding that a product extension like fountain.com was "a perfect compliment to go with our garden.com website".
Fountain.com was part of a 12-month spree in non-animal-specific generic domain name buying by the company, during which wind.com, solar.com, farm.com, garden.com and bike.com were added to Pets United's burgeoning portfolio.
Despite the wide range of sectors represented by the names purchased, Mr Tabibi insisted on the relevance of each site to personal interests, with a consequent will to develop each generic domain name to become a useful as well as inherently popular source for websurfers.
Pets United started out in the cyber space market by buying the address dog.com, using its natural generation of hits as the springboard to successful e-retail.
Even in regard to this first generic domain name, Mr Tabibi claimed a love for his cocker spaniel to have motivated the purchase.
