Generic domain name pharmacy.com has just gone on the market and is expected to fetch millions of dollars, business portal redherring.com reports.
The domain, which has not been up for sale for 13 years, could break some US records when it is given up by its current owner, a Florida-based medical equipment supplier named Rotech.
"Based on modeling, we're putting it way over $50 million," said Joshua Bourne, co-founder of FairWinds Partners which is controlling the sale.
Although Dictionary.com has been bought for $100 million and Business.com for $350 million, these domains also came with multimillion-dollar businesses already running behind them.
In contrast, the $50 million expected to pay for Pharmacy.com would be almost solely for the letters themselves.
Domain Name Journal editor Ron Jackson has his doubts about the sale however, telling redherring.com: "No domain has ever sold for more than $15 million, so to think that it's going to jump to $50 million, that's not going to happen."
