As the year's biggest e-retail day gets underway, Play.com predicts this year's sales to grow on last year's figures.
It predicted that sales will increase today by 25 per cent compared to 2007.
During the peak hours of 1pm and 2pm, Play.com expects to process over 936 orders - a figure up on last year's 700, reported Pocket-lint.
According to the organisations' projections, over 532,000 units will be shipped today, equating to 332 tonnes of goods.
These will include computer games, DVDs, CDs and books that may be handed over to the recipients' loved ones this festive season.
Simon Perree, managing director and co-founder of Play.com, highlighted that the firm experienced strong sales growth during November, despite the current economic outlook.
Another firm operating from a generic website to have experienced success of late is FareCompare.com, which recently entered into a deal with ITA Software to provide its clients with a more comprehensive search base.
