8th April 2009 Premium domain name 'is key to revenue'

DomainInformer writer Robert Orr has stated in a new article that although domain names are capable of returning the efforts of investors, the real money lies in premium domain names.
"If you want revenue from web traffic, advertising CPM and pay per click revenue share or resale value, you are going to have to shell out for a premium domain name," he advises potential businesses and those with their eyes on the market.
He highlights that there is "an entire business" based on the acquisition and reselling of premium domain names, with hundreds auctioned daily as people aim to raise funds through the practice.
However, for those wondering just what qualities constitute a premium domain name, Mr Orr states that it has to be short and keyword-inclusive, easy to remember and, if possible, something containing a simple and everyday word.
Furthermore, single-word names, such as Hairdressers.com or Consols.com, are likely to have more "branding power" and owning one makes a business appear as though it is an "authority on the subject", he continues.
Finally, Mr Orr adds, like many investment opportunities, the more an individual is willing to spend on a premium or generic domain name, the more money they are likely to gain in the long term.
