Restaurant.com 'giving away $30 million in gift certificates'

A campaign launched by the generic website Restaurant.com has seen it offer a total of $30 million in restaurant vouchers to cash-strapped individuals in the US amid the recession.
However, they have not been snapped up as hastily as expected, as the site has reminded people that there is still $27 million worth of vouchers left for the taking.
Those interested in making their Christmas bills a little shorter can take advantage of the offer until Christmas Day with no financial strings attached.
Cary Chessick, chief executive officer and president of Restaurant.com, said that the economic downturn "has the potential to deprive people of […] the gift of giving".
"Visit the giving site every day until Christmas and help share the gift certificates with everyone deserving," he urged.
Another generic site, GiftCardDonor.com, recently launched a project designed to assist charities experiencing a shortage of benefactors this holiday season.
The site is currently collecting unused Christmas cards to sell them onwards, with a portion of the profits going to charity.
