People looking to expand their internet investment portfolios may be interested in comments made recently about search engine optimisation (SEO).
According to e-consultancy, search engine ranking can be improved by targeting specific keywords.
"What you're looking to do is optimise those keywords," researcher Graham Charlton said.
He added: "If a business is just starting off and doesn't know what they're doing with search engine optimisation, it's best that they get someone to do that side of things for them."
Mr Charlton also pointed out that while the top three sites displayed on a Google search are sponsored links, companies can make their way to the top of the "natural" search list using keywords.
Businesses with generic domain names that include keywords directly related to their sites may therefore find their investment paying off.
According to recent figures from NPD, 28 per cent of internet users look for sites by typing a single keyword into a search engine.
