Search marketing will be more beneficial to advertisers than recent developments in the social networking sector, one expert has suggested.
Danny Sullivan, editor in chief of Search Engine Land, claims that despite suggestions that social networking offers the latest in online marketing, advertisers are much better off with search marketing, making generic domain names a sensible acquisition.
Speaking on industry new podcast, the Daily Searchcast, Mr Sullivan said that current noise being made around Facebook's announcement over a new advertising platform was nothing particularly groundbreaking.
He added that Facebook's inability to properly target its marketing strategies would mean that finding a website via search, which is often far more likely to happen with generic domain names, offers users a more targeted result.
The current worth of generic domain names can also be seen in terms of recent market activity.
Last week a generic UK address to be used for encouraging environmental awareness, named Recycle.co.uk, sold for over $300,000.
