New sales data from the DN Journal suggests that valuable domain names may pay off for those who have invested in this type of internet real estate.
The results of the sales survey reveal that SkiResorts.com fetched the highest price of all domain names sold between March 31st and April 6th, 2008.
It sold for $850,000, which was more than $800,000 more than the name that appeared second on the list.
Meanwhile, the second and third-place websites also had generic domain names - Madrid.net sold for $43,920, while Banks.ca went for $41,000.
Some of the other generic domain names appearing in the top ten include celibataire.com (which means "single" in French), hoteles.info ("hotels" in Spanish) and ContemporaryRugs.com.
Those names sold for $39,339, $30,607 and $30,000 respectively.
Rounding out the top 20, WeddingPlace.com, You.org, Vuelos.info ("flights" in Spanish) and HitRadio.com also sold for more than $14,000 each.
