Generic domains are a new form of real estate that can make people millions of dollars, according to one expert.
IWant2MakeMoneyOnline.com, a blog about home based businesses, says that the buying and selling of generic domains has become a huge industry in the last ten years, with a total value of about $2 billion and it is expected to double in size by 2010.
However, it is important those people who are about to potentially embark on a generic domain sale check that the name doesn't correspond to any trademarks. You can get a trademark check online which will go through registered or pending trademarks to ensure you are not buying a domain illegally.
It is good to do this as generic domains are never an obvious cut-and-dry matter.
Earlier this month, finance writer Joel Teo told PR-GB.com that in order to make money out of domain names it is also important to consider what will sell on quickly and what sort of market will want to buy it.
He added: "Have plenty of answers to the question 'how can I make money with a domain name?' Any speculator who can do this will know exactly how to make money from public domain names."
