Children's chain Toys R Us has bought a premium domain name for $5.1 million.
The global children's toy shop has invested the cash in the premium domain name Toys.com - a base that could help it to expand its online presence even further.
However, the international chain's acquisition of the valuable piece of internet real estate was no easy feat. It had to beat off stiff competition, entering into a head-to-head bidding war with domain name firm National A-1.
The two organisations were alone in their battle for the name once bids transcended the two million dollar mark.
Toys R Us owns 73 stores in the UK alone and overall, runs 1,500 across 32 countries globally. It currently operates the toysrus.co.uk website.
Other firms that, like Toys R Us, recognise the potential of premium domain names, could consider investing in a generic example, such as MiniMotorcycle.com or ChildsToys.com.
