Police and officials in the United States are backing the choice of generic domain name to create a link between the general public and local law enforcement.
It has been revealed that the state of Utah will offer its residents access to criminal statistics and information through its CrimeReports.com website in a bid to allow the local community to work more closely with the police..
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Utah attorney general Mark Shurtleff said that the generically named domain is expected to see rapid growth over the coming days and weeks as police, agencies and the general public share information to help tackle crime.
He remarked that "knowledge is power" and that CrimeReports.com will provide easy access for all that will help people to understand how they can better interact with law enforcement officers. "It's a great day," he added.
The CrimeReports.com site claims to be accessed and utilised regularly by a number of cities and states in the US including a further 15 states.
