A domain name expert has claimed that economic circumstances are making top .com addresses unbeatable bargains for foreign buyers.
Generic domain names and other top product-specific monikers are always in high demand, but never more so than now that the dollar is slipping to record lows, according to Domain Name Wire.
The dollar has in recent weeks slipped to record lows against the Euro, also falling to below parity with the Canadian dollar and losing value against a host of other currencies, making US dollar-priced goods relatively cheaper for foreign purchasers.
For in-demand generic domain names this means more takers than ever for what could be a real bargain if, as is often the case, the purchase of a top moniker provides the springboard to e-retail success.
Domain Name Wire editor Andrew Allemann explained on the site that depreciation of the dollar had been affecting the domain name market since 2005, but that now "the dollar keeps falling and the effect is becoming even more apparent".
He explained the positive upshot for the US domain name market: "Sellers in the US have strong buyer demand from outside the US."
