Hollywood saw a number of high-priced domain sales recently as two generically named sites exchanged hands at a recent conference.
DOMAINfest was the location for the SnapNames Live Auction - which was held over two afternoon sessions - and saw Yemen.com purchased for $100,000 and Females.com acquired for $90,000.
It was reported that 294 live bids were processed as part of the event that saw a total of 400 premium names sold from the 110,000 which were submitted.
It was also noted that sales totals that reached $3.161 million on the day suggest that there has been no drop in emphasis on the importance of domain names and this is something that Sudhir Bhagwan, SnapNames' chief executive officer, says is down to good business sense.
"At the end of the day, these are investments with a potential for a calculated return," he said.
It has not yet been revealed how Yemen.com will be utilised, however, with the New York Times naming Yemen the best destination of 2007 there could be a number of opportunities.
